VIX’s Rise Has Been in Slow Motion, Still Could Pack Pop
While the latest uptick in volatility has been slow to boil, VIX watchers say that the pace is unlikely to dampen any coming shock that would coincide with higher VIX readings.
“I don’t think that it matters how long it takes to get from complacency to fear,” said John Kosar, director of research at Asbury Research. “All this indicates to me is that, even though a lot of bad stuff has been happening, it hasn’t been bad enough in the minds of investors to trigger a VIX rise over 30.”
